IBM Desktop ThinkPad P4. Good for 1 year. Started to have sudden system hang irregularly and no video. Need to power-off to get it back. Once every few days initially. Now several times in 1 hour.
Tried a hardware diagnostic programme (BurnInTest), which tests for different hardware components individually or simultaneously. When I tested everything together (CPU, RAM, DVD-RW, 2-D graphic, sound, harddisk, network) the hang consistently appeared at around 45 seconds to 1 minute. If I tested the last 4 components simultaneously, the hang would appear much later (3-4 minutes). If I tested the first three components together, the hang would appear sooner (around 1 min). No consistent result if I tested the components individually. Seems that if I stressed the system hard, the hang would appear sooner.
What possibly could be wrong? A defect somewhere in the CPU?
TIA for advice.
