High Pitched Tone
« on: May 27, 2009, 01:12:02 AM »
Hi all!

I just purchased a new HP computer with dedicated graphics and it's very fast.

But one thing I noticed when I first plugged it in, was that it was making a high pitched yet quiet tone. I did a bit of searching on Google and found out that some power supplies do this when something has gone wrong and now I'm getting a little paranoid from it.

However I also read that some power supplies do this even when nothing is wrong.

Today when I went out I put the computer on Sleep. When I came back, it was making the same noise. But there's a little light on the front of the computer that flashes during Standby/Sleep (as a feature) and the tone or pitch changes as the light flashes on or off. If I turn the computer on, the noise seems to go away or is not noticable.

Should I use the warranty? Or am I worrying too much for something normal?

Thanks,

~Dairyman

Depends how high pitched it is?...
