Default Speaker Icon Not Showing Up
    « on: May 28, 2009, 01:58:24 PM »
    Hello All,

I'm new to this forum and would like some advice on Sound. I have a Dell Optiplex 400 which has a it's own sound from the motherboard. Has no sound card but recently my computer was invaded by a virus which apparently wiped out the $winnt$.inf file. Since after i cleaned up the virus the default speaker icon which usually appears by the time status isn't there. As i believe it a legacy type device and would have to program it if order for it to work. I read that somewhere on the internet.

But anyways what i would like to know is if i purchase a sound card place it in the open slots where the modem is if i would get the computer to show the default speaker icon at the bottom of the screen where the time is?

    Thanks
    Dunn
