Will not start up as it will not boot (load) windows?  Or will not even execute the BIOS?  Or will not even power a fan?

Your previous solution was typical of shotgunning.  Part swapping (ie removing a battery) apparently only (temporarily) cured a symptom. Did not first identify the problem.  Therefore the same problem probably stil exists.  Better is to see identify the problem before fixing it.  For example, did you measure the current battery voltage?  First get facts before fixing anything so that the problem is solved a first time.  How to get those facts?  Answer three questions up top to better know where to start.

Got it fixed by buying a new power supply.

westom hates shotgunning....go buy a voltmeter and solve all your issues.
They sell them at Wal-Mart so they're safe...

Maybe.  How many times was it fixed - only to fail again?  Shotgunning.  Normal is for a defective supply to boot a computer.  Learn now while the supply is still under warranty.  And also learn from the experience.  Or learn later after its warranty expires.

Even auto mechanics are quickly unemployed if they shotgun.
