Printing from computer is no problem. Can I put a document on the glass of the printer and have the image transferred to my computer, and ultimately send this image to someone?

Yes, there should be an option of 'print to file"or "scan to file".

Because you will be scanning this document, remember that it will be a picture of that document.  Nobody, including you, can modify that image unless you run OCR(Optical Character Recognition) software on it to turn it into a document again.  Until you run OCR on it, it's only a picture of the document.
