SVCHOST.EXE-- why 7 running at once???

xp home, browsing the ctrl+alt+del (wtm) page and I COUNT 7 SVCHOST.exe RUNNING simultaneously.... 4 under system, 1 under local service, and 2 under network service...  i have DSL t1 thru AllTel... this cant be normal.. is it normal? virus check programs seem to think its normal. anybody else find this "7 svchost.exe" thing a bit fishY??? thanx

Actually svchost.exe is a program that will launch other programs as a service. That you have multiple sessions is not a cause for alarm. If you want to be sure. Try using microsoft anti-spyware tool. The MS tool somewhat explains running services or at least finds the program using it.

There are tools to monitor / trace or explain the complete services. Pprocexp.exe from Sysinternals does the job fine!
