    laptop battery charging problem
    « on: September 07, 2009, 03:37:51 PM »
I have a gateway T-6815 laptop. The power chord tip broke and so I purchased a new power supply chord. The computer works fine but would not charge the battery so I bought a new battery and it still is not charging. The light on the computer that indicates it is charging the battery is not on and the icon at the bottom right of the screen says plugged in not charging. Anyone one have a suggestion of what is wrong
    Thank you Dan

My first suspect would be the new charger cord does not match the one you replaced.

What would be the main specs on the power adapter. I bought a universal one from rocketfish that came with a bunch of different tips. I have the correct tip on it. It is a 90W AC adapter, I looked at the specs for my laptop and it said this
      65W output AC Adapter
Automatically adjusts for 100 to 240 VAC, 50 to 60 Hz power

I have an old laptop that does the same thing.  After much troubleshooting, I have determined that the charging circuit resides on the motherboard.  It can't be fixed without replacing it.

Yours probably works the same way.

I also noticed that if I use the usb to charge my blackberry phone, sometimes I got a message on the phone saying something about insuffecient power supply through the usb port

Windows limits current at 0.50A to USB ports.  This has nothing to do with the other issue.
