    Memory compatibility
    « on: October 24, 2009, 12:20:01 AM »
My old laptop died and it was an HP Pavillion I bought a new... yep ..... HP Pavillion which came with 4 gm and expandable to 8. There should be a good likelyhood that I can put the memory from the old laptop into the new one?

    How can I tell.

    Thanks in advance.

Check the RAM specifications on the old computer and see if they match up with the RAM in your new computer. Usually if there's much of a time difference between purchasing the old laptop and the new one, the specs will probably be different. Just post what you find and we'll help you find out whether or not they are compatible or not.

Travel to Crucial.com and run the online scanner...
What OS are you running ? ?
Because if it's not 64bit you're wasting the extra RAM...

You misunderstand, 32-bit Windows cannot access more than 4GB memory.

            old 4200

            new dv6-1352dx

old 4200 - not listed on Curcial; but maybe  DDR2 PC2-5300
            new dv6-1352dx - Package: 200-pin SODIMM; DDR2 PC2-6400

If PC2-5300 used together with PC2-6400, all memory will function at slower 5300 speed, 166MHz clock instead of 200MHz clock.  You might notice it and you might not, depending what you use laptop for.

So bottom line is....I can try it!

I mostly use it for online poker - email - family pictures - making cds etc etc no games and watching dvd's nothing to intensive.

              Thanks,
