    Computer Shuts off Randomly
    « on: November 17, 2009, 12:35:20 AM »
When I went to college 6 months ago. I brought my custom built desktop with me, worked fine before I left. Got to school set it up, and when I'm running many processes on my computer or loading up a game it will turn off. Then after that some times won't even turn back on. I thought maybe it was my power supply since the one I had was the minimum power I needed, and was old. So I bought a brand new PSU with more power, and the same problem is happening.

    Here is my specs

    Motherboard: Gigabyte S Series P35-DS3R
    PSU:Corsair TX 850 W
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs)
    Memory: 4 Gigs of Ram
Hard Drive: 800 Gig HD Total
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT

I tried many different ideas to fix it. I thought it was either the power supply was going bad, or over heating. But I got a new power supply and the heating is normal

    UPDATE:
Alright, I just removed everything from my computer, took motherboard out and processor out. Put it all back in and made sure everything was connected, and connected tightly. Computer turned on, and was loading everything. Tested loading a game, and right before the map loaded up it crashed. Then turned computer right back on, and turned off in a minute or so.

I'm going try get all my information on my backup hard drive then reformat. If that doesn't work any idea?

Does it just shut off if it has been idle for a while or only when under loads?

How did you test to see that heating is normal?

    You can't fix Stupid!!!

THe brand of my new PSU is PSU:Corsair TX 850 W

It's only turning off when loading and doing processes. For example when it hasn't been on for a while, I'll load it up and the whole computer will load. I will be able to get on browsing the internet. I'll load up a game, for example CoD5 or CoD4. The game will load up to the menu but when it goes to the game actually it crashes. It will also do it when I'm rendering movies, or doing anything that takes alot of CPU power or memory. Then after it crashes I'll turn it back on and it will crash while Windows is loading

Sounds like it could be a heat issue.

Have you tried running with the side off and a fan blowing in it?

I have had the side off it for a while, plus my custom case is a special cooling case with alot of fans and such. Any programs I can get to check the temperature

I don't like SpeedFan for monitoring temps & fans.  Just a little too hard to read.  See if you like this one better:  http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php
          Can't see your pic, anyway.

Kinda hard to see but you should be able to tell if it is.

That's better!  Overheating?  Everything is cold, the hard drives aren't even warm.  CPU fan speed seems low, most are 3000rpm fans.
80C would be hot for CPU, 50C for hard drive.

Then what could my problem be as you see if its not the temperatures, or the PSU.
