    monitor trouble
    « on: December 09, 2009, 08:04:19 PM »
Hello!  I need help with my daughter's computer.  She has a Dell Inspirion and flat screen monitor.  She was playing Zoo Tycoon which she has played many times before and suddenly the screen came up with: "Auto Detect (analog input) cannot display this video mode optimum resolution 1440 x 900" and it won't go away.  We've restarted the computer with and without the monitor connected to the computer and we've done a systems restore.  It works in the safe mode but once we return to the normal mode we get the same error.  I hope this in enough info to allow someone to help.   Thank you in advance!

use f8 at boot and select VGA mode and change the resolution to 1440x900.
I was trying to dereference Null Pointers before it was cool.

Thanks for the reply.  I tried that but don't have VGA mode as an option in safe mode.  We're running Vista...

not in safe mode, it should be one of the options, Normal Mode, Safe mode, VGA mode, etc.
