dropped laptop screen dead

Plz help.....
I dropped my laptop and the screen is dead, is there anyway to retrieve files without
taking it to a repair facility. I have already purchased a new laptop and just need a couple of file off the old pc.

You can also pull the drive and hook it up to a desktop machine to grab your data...
Hopefully the drop didn't shock the HDD heads too severely.
