windows 7 won't recognize my 4GB Dane elec flash drive

windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 5810T won't recognize my 4GB Dane-Elec flash drive but my other laptop (Acer ASpire 1670) running XP will read it ok.  I hear the usual 'docking' prompt tone when I plug it into the new laptop but nothing else.
I've tried dane-elec website for downloads but no luck. I contacted them by phone and have sent an enquiry. I tried the right click 'computer', 'manage', storage but the flash drive didn't show. Any ideas?

all my other flash drives work, including a 500MB Dane Elec (black nacre) same range as the 4GB(red).

At that point, if you open Computer, does the flash drive appear there as a "Removable Disk"?

no, there's just the audible prompt

Does it appear in Device Manager (Start -> Control Panel -> System (view small icons to get to this option) -> Device Manager)

Actually, I'd like to know if it shows in disk management (start - run - diskmgmt.msc)

ok thanks guys but disk management display shows devices as I plug them in and unplug them but I only get the sound with the 4GB flash drive. Device manager is the same.

no, it doesn't show in disk management

Put it in the PC it works in...
Copy all your important data...
Format it and save a simple text file to it and try it in your machine...
