How do I fix this?  Was the SQL Server on the original install of Windows XP?

I also see that when windows update tries to install Microsoft .Net Framework service pack, it doesn't work.  Are these two problems connected?

    Thank you

We need more information. Please give us the versions of the software you are running. Also what happened leading up to this error.

    The more information the better.

I have Windows XP Home edition.

I think what happened was that I may have deleted something that I should not have deleted, in an effort to get my computer to run faster/better.  I do not know what it was but that is when I started getting the SQL error.

I assumed that the .Net download problem was related.

I just did a repair by booting from the CD and choosing the "set up Windows XP now" option and then repair.  I still got the errors but then ran the sfc /scannow and rebooted.  I will go to Windows to do updates next and see if this fixed all the problems.

      If not...I will reply again.

Who else uses this machine ? ?
Most Home users would not need SQL Server installed

I went into control panel and don't even see SQL Server in there.

I do see MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistribution and an update
          I also have MSXML 4.0 SP2 3 times
                            MSXML SP Parser & SDK
                            MSXML 6.0 Parser
I have no idea what this is or what it is for.  Do I need it?

          Thanks

I think she didn't understand that MSXML is part of SQL.

Probably less confusing if she wasn't asking in 2 different Topics...

So are those comments supposed to help?

If I knew they were part of SQL Server, I would not have asked.  These forums are for those that need help, correct?

How and what do I do to either fix the error or if I don't need this program-how do I safely remove it.

The reason i inquired who else uses the machine is because i'm not about to advise removing something that should be there.

Use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.

And yes this is a Forum for those that need help...

That's right. I only became aware of it because one of the computers is getting low on HDD space, so I was trying to get rid of excess stuff. When I saw it, I was wondering what it was doing there. Then I realized it was part of the kid's web development software for a school project.

Then I was looking up local host ports and realized that my Bentley workshop manual software for Volkswagen also installed SQL on my computer. So you never know what applications are dependent on it until you check.

I will uninstall these programs associated with the SQL Server and see if that fixes the problem.  I don't know what program I might have that needs it or installed it.  Does Photoshop?

Can you tell me what the .NET framework is?  Is that something I can uninstall and then download a new version?  Is it something that I need to have?

                  thank you.

.NET is Microsoft's answer to Java. Since Java is more dominant in the market, there is not much using .NET besides Microsoft products.

There are quite a few non-MS apps that require .NET.
