devices with removable storage
« on: January 22, 2010, 01:41:47 PM »
A family member unhooked my hardrive and hooked up another to apparently check theirs out then reconnected mine.  Every time I start the computer now I get the Found New Hardware message for the CDR drive and the DVD drive.  Their respective icons appear in the Devices with Removable Storage in My Computer for a brief moment then disappear and neither unit will spool up when a disc is installed.  Any ideas will be greatly appreciated on how to get the drives to be recognized by the computer and functional again.

Doesn't it even begin to spool at all? That's not normal indeed. If I were you, I would first remove the upper and/or lower filters from your registry, read this article on how to do so:

Also check if you can use a boot disk to check if it works outside of Windows.
