Basically I need extra USB ports on my PC, sooo I was wondering if there is any handy item witch you could just plug in to the USB port and the item leads to more USB ports...any of you clever clogs know anything like it?
-
Is this for a laptop or a desktop?
-
You need what is called a USB Hub. They are available from most good computer stores.
They look a bit like the ones below:

I mentioned it was PC. ;)
And thanks, that's what I was looking for. :D
Gratzzz

Does PC mean a desktop computer? I don't think so. The model of my portable computer, as labeled on the computer, is "Compaq Presario F572US Notebook PC". ;)

PC stands for Personal Computer, not Portable Computer.
They haven't made "Portable" computers for years.

That was my point. Quantos asked whether this is a laptop or a desktop? Redcaa's reply, "I mentioned it was PC.", implies that his/her stating "I need extra USB ports on my PC" should have been understood to mean a desktop computer.

Uh, what's your definition of portable? I'm talking about the common usage of the word, which means something easily carried or conveyed by hand. This would include laptop and notebook computers, and netbooks.

We may never find out...

USB hubs are nice but can be expensive. dont get one so big ur not gonna use it

I'm thinking more along the lines of portable as in the building- for example, my high-school had a number of classrooms in buildings called "portables" outside. These buildings were more portable then the main building itself, but still required a lot of effort to move. Much in the same fashion as some early "portable" computers that used a CRT screen.
Really, I think of portable as "movable, but requires effort and cannot be used while being moved"- a portable building cannot be used while being moved- nor could the early portable computers, since they didn't have batteries.
Rather, for laptops, cellphones, ipods, MP3 players, and handheld devices, a more applicable word is "mobile". Portable does apply, but it's hardly the most precise word that you can use, since it hardly highlights <how> portable a machine is.
Definitions generally make it so a laptop is portable- which is true, you can use it as you would use a portable (luggable, would be the more modern term).

But there is no way anybody can consider that the Compaq Portable is even in the same class of "portability" as a modern laptop.

Anyway, the reason I asked if it was a laptop or desktop was to see if the OP could make use of an internal solution.

Yes, that's an internal solution. And, those cards work well. Of course, those ports are on back of the computer.

Um, you're saying my Compaq Presario Notebook PC is not modern? It's less than 3 years old. The OS IS Windows Vista. It has most features found on any late model laptop. So, I'd say it's fairly modern.

Well i was thinking something like this when u meant wanted more usb drives.

In that case a desktop.
:)
The hub looks good and should do. Thanks. I may add that card however it seems to be too much hassle.
-
Yeh - The cards are good as everything is kept neat (Nothing outside the PC) but involve you opening the PC and installing it (Not too hard, push into slot and attach screw) but the hubs are really easy - plug in and it works!
