Title: Windows Media File Sharing failure on my computer!
Post by: Eman7673 on March 21, 2009, 12:23:36 AM
Hi everyone, this is my first post here, and I please hope that you guys can help me out here. The problem started yesterday, literally right after I downloaded internet explorer 8 to my computer (if you are wondering, I use vista). After the download and restart, everything seemed to be ok with my computer, until I wanted to stream some music from windows media player through my Xbox 360 while I was playing. I then get a message that says it cant connect to my computer, and to check my media sharing settings. I try to enable it again, and it says there might be a firewall problem. I disable my firewalls, try it again, and it still wont go through. I did anything and everything I could think of, even one of my good friends (whos the IT department director at his job) tried everything he could and it didnt work. My Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 cant even connect to my computer through my network anymore, its as if my computer is invisible to everything. He said to copy the WMP settings from another Vista enabled computer, which I will do, but it is probably my last and best shot. I tried to run system restore, but my computer has no real usable restore points, so that didnt work. What should I do?

Uninstall IE8
Go back to 7 it's more stable.

What does that mean? What exactly happens when you try to do a system restore?

Have you tried rebooting the router yet?

I cant uninstall IE8 and go back to IE7, I tried many times, and my friend said it wasnt possible to do that anyway. System restore didnt work cause there were no restore points, and rebooting the router doesnt work, I just tried it.

When you open control panel and select Add/Remove Programs make sure there is a check mark next to "show updates" near the top of the screen.

Can you see IE8 now?

Hm, I see that I can uninstall it, but wont it crash my system? My friend said that it was so integrated into Vista that it could cause a lot of problems if I did it.

I've never had that happen.

What does your friend do again? Does he work with/on windows computers?

Hes the head of the IT department where he works, and he works with windows all the time. Another thing, if I uninstall IE8 on my computer, how do I get IE7 back on? Is it already in the computer?

It should just roll back to 7

If you are hesitant about removing it, just create a restore point in system restore before you do it.

Ok, I'll try it out tomorrow, I gotta get some sleep. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.
