Just finished building a computer for my son.
I installed Windows XP Professional, i have put an icon with his name so he clicks on it after it loads.
Problem is its asking for a password and i never put one in.
When i try to put a password, i get a pop up saying
System cannot log you on due to the following error
The specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted
I cant even go to control panel i am stuck can anyone please help, thanks

I just Googled your error message and they all point to Active Directory, Domains, LDAP, etc. During setup did you leave it as a workgroup or domain?
Wish I could be more help :-[

Might be your antivirus package. sounds like the firewall or another third party firewall/security sw is running? are you running an av suite, it may have something running you dont know about.
Or try this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/172931

Before going crazy and trying to figure this out it may be best to do a clean install...
Pay attention to all the prompts in the process.
