what software do i need to play dvds for ubuntu one thats NOT VLC or totem thank u

i installed kaffein but when i try to play a dvd it says error reading NAV package what does that mean

it does not read all dvds

Reads all my dvds. Since I travel a lot around the world I have several dvds from different regions and it even reads those once I use anydvd to compensate for the region code.

What kind of dvds are you having problems with it not reading?

I don't know and since my crystal ball is in the shop for repairs can you tell us what version of vlc you have?

open vlc --> click "help" --> click "check for updates"

The simple solution would be to DLoad the latest version which has that option...

PS...the DVD's may have copyright /or region protection on them...
Provide more details on these DVD's and how they were created....

Kaffeine is for KDE. You're probably running GNOME.

yeah i chose kaffeine but it says this error reading from dvd or error reading nav package

Is this the same machine with the failing DVD drive? If so that could be the reason and not the software.
