The Windows Taskbar at the bottom of my screen shows all the Windows open. Now here is the annoying thing, when I click on something that is either at the end or near the end of the list of open Windows, it shifts when I click on it that I cannot open the Window. When it shift and then I tried to click on it, it shifts [no re-ordering of icons occurs, it just moves around as if it was never there]. Eventually, I just keep clicking and the Window I want pops up. Anyone ever ran across this issue, and know how to fix it?

Try locking or unlocking the taskbar.

Thanks for the hint, but I must still click "lock taskbar" before I can click on a task.

How many windows are populating your taskbar? In XP, opening 5 will already combine all windows with quicklaunch icons enabled. Does locking taskbar keeps them from shifting as you say?

I have my taskbar as two rows instead of one so make it more readable what's behind it. The taskbar has four on the top and say two on the bottom, the issue happens too often that the icons shift around.
task1 task2 task3 task4
task5 task6
When try to click task 5 above, it would become
task1 task2 task3 task4 task5
task6
Then try clicking on task5 above, it would become
task1 task2 task3 task4
task5 task6
Now, how annoying is that? It's like trying to catch the bouncing red ball..... But when you gave the idea of lock taskbar, it does not bounce around, but yet, i must always click lock taskbar to avoid the bouncing each time ---- not good way to use Windows :-X

What version of windows you are running?

What version of windows you are running?
I'm using Windows XP SP3

I don't use the option lock the taskbar. While I have quicklaunch icons pin on taskbar in XP, this is how I setup them when multiple windows are open.

They don't make any shifting or shuffling as you may be experiencing. Perhaps you should use Group similar task on your Taskbar properties.

"Lose your Belly:.... ;D

Do you have another computer that you can usea if so you can copy the setting of the taskbar from that computer to the computer that is not working.
