Title: newbie with OS restore problems
Post by: fuscorayj on February 23, 2009, 09:41:09 AM
Hey all!<
My computer is self destructing, I did not renew my subscription to RegCure and everything has been going south since. I am no longer even able to log in. I know I am loaded with viruses. I was in the middle of a VirusScan re-install with McAfee when I lost internet access. Now it's to the point that I can no longer log on. When I try to do an OS repair/ restore using manufacture's disk I get error messages that certain files do not pass the windows logo test, i say to copy anyway but then install does not finalize. I don't know where to start, I don't necessarily want to reformat the whole drive. Can anyone guide me in what steps to take using dos commands?
I am running XP home.
Thanks,
Ray

I would visit our Virus and Spyware section and follow the instructions at the top of the page for requesting Help...

so, i can't even start up in safe mode, if I boot with last known good config, my desktop will load but then i get the error messages: CcEvtSvc.exe app error; instruction at 0x77f755e9 referenced memory 0x000000a8 could not be read. (I cancel to debug) then ; WINLOGON.exe -app error -instruction at0x0198cb54; referenced memory 0x01996000 could not be read ( I cancel to debug) then dsca.exe app error failed to initiate 0xc000007b (no options) then; mabidwe.exe encountered a problem & needs to shut down. Then spoolsv.exe app error - instruct @ 0x77f6aa5f- memory @ 0x00000000 could not be read (cancel to debug)
Then BLUE SCREEN - Bad_Pool_Caller.......... it says to uninstall any recent applications and or disable BIOS options like cahcing or shadowing but I do not see where to do this. Tech info on blue screen:STOP:0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0x6E86CE8D, 0xEED2CC98, 0x00000000)

I have run Blue Screen TEsts in Utility partition & everything has passed

Any tests I can run through DOS?

With computer "loaded with viruses" to the point, where you can't even boot. I'd suggest clean install.
