Title: microsoft outlook "out of memory" error
Post by: youngjean_lee on April 07, 2007, 06:00:02 PM
Beginning several weeks ago, whenever I try to open a word attachment in microsoft outlook (2000), it says, "Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again." It says this even if nothing else is running. It opens pdf, excel, and jpeg attachments just fine. I've been scouring the web to see if anyone else has ever had this problem and can't find any info. If anyone has any thoughts, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Oops, sorry! My computer is a PC laptop I bought in 10/2006: Gateway-Notebook with AMD Turion™ 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-52-MX6453. 1.60 GHz, 1.87 GB of RAM. My operating system is windows xp. Most of my virtual and physical memory is still free. Thank you so much!

Does Outlook 2000 have an item on the Help menu called Detect and Repair?

Can you save the attachment to a folder on your hard drive and then open it directly in Word?

Thanks for the responses!

Detect and repair didn't fix it, and yes I can save in a folder and open it from there. But I get tons of word attachments and it's really inconvenient not to be able to open directly from the e-mail.

I have norton systemworks 2006 with antivirus. I use windows xp 2002 with service pack two. I could always open word attachments fine until around a week and a half ago. I don't recall installing any new programs, although my computer did download some windows automatic updates.

If anyone has any ideas, I would be greatly appreciative! Thanks!!

Do you have a Restore Point prior to this happening?  If so, try it.

Shoot, I disabled Norton GoBack when I first got it because it was making my computer start up too slowly. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!!

I meant Windows System Restore.  To find it: Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | System Restore.

Thanks! I tried system restore but it said there had been no changes to the system (although it would only let me go back as far as March 7, 2007 and it's possible that the change happened before that). Any other suggestions would be hugely appreciated!
