Hi all,
I just canceled my Verizon DSL and uninstalled what I thought was all of their programs. I just found the program "Verizon Online Support Center" in my list of programs. When I tried to use the Add/Remove Programs function to remove the program, I got the following error message:
Error loading
C:\PROGRA~/\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\engine\6\INTEL3~1\Ctor.dll<UNINSTALL_CMD>
The specified module could not be found.
Is this an error pointing to a problem with the ADD/REMOVE Programs windows function? Or does it have to do with the actual Verizon software? Since I canceled my Verizon service before I found this problem, they wont even talk to me. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Alan

Use your Windows Explorer and search for this program. It may be just an empty folder.
-
Error like this will occur when installation log is missing (not uncommon).
In that case Control Panel can't perform uninstall, because it doesn't know where particular files were installed.
It has nothing to do with you canceling your service.
Most likely, when you uninstalled their main program, it took away all links, and left some leftovers: "Verizon Online Support Center".
You can try using ZSoft Uninstaller: http://www.zsoft.dk/index.php?goto=software_details&prog_id=4
I that doesn't work, you'll have to remove "Verizon Online Support Center" folder, and then clean your registry from whatever is left from Verizon.

I removed the Verizon Online Support Center folder. How do I remove it from the registry?
Thanks

Your safest bet would be to run CCleaner: http://www.ccleaner.com/
-
I deleted the Verizon folder & ran CCLEANER. The program still existed. I tried ZSOFT UNINSTALLER and got the same error message.
-
The program still existed
Where? In your programs list, when you click on Start?
If so, just right click on it, and click "Delete". It's just leftover shortcut.
-
It only appears in my Add or Remove Programs list. The only reason I am concerned about it is because it says it is 10.64 MB. Is it not really there?
-
it says it is 10.64 MB
That Add/Remove entry sees only what it was before you got rid of it.
Download Eusing Registry Cleaner: http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm
When you open it, remove all checkmarks, EXCEPT for: "Add/Remove Programs".
Click on "Scan registry issue".
It'll give you an option to remove that leftover entry from Control Panel's Add/Remove.
-
I ran this cleaner & got rid of a bunch of registry problems, but Verizon wasn't one of them.

A lot of times it is just an error in how the program updates. It may say it's there but it doesn't mean it is. Generally, I uninstall programs by deleting them from the Program Files folder. In this case, the Add/Remove thing doesn't even reconginze that they're gone, even though the files are.

Very, very bad idea!!!
but Verizon wasn't one of them.
Get TweakUI: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/tweakui, and go to Add/Remove tab. It'll let you remove unwanted entry.
-
I got the TweakUI but don't see the Add/Remove tab or are you talking about the Add/Remove programs on the control panel?
-
You're right...Add/Remove is missing from TweakUI since Win 2K. Why? I don't know. Ask M$.
You have to open "regedit", and navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall
You have to click one-by-one on keys in left pane, until you'll find an entry you want to remove, in right pane.
Then, right click on found entry, and click "Delete".
-
Better yet, you can use older, free version of "RegCleaner":
http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/index.html#jv16
Click on "Uninstall Menu" tab.
-
at home i use freshUI ? . I think it is called that. It allows you to remove unwanted program entries in the add/remove programs dialog.
-
I use FreshUI, too, but I can't find this option there.
RegCleaner works even in Vista. I just checked.
-
I installed the older version of REGCLEANER and that took care of it! Thanks everyone.
