The one I think is best is not in your poll.

You should add W7 to your poll

Indeed, but even if he did, mine wouldn't be there.

Indeed, but even if he did, mine wouldn't be there.

Mine would not be there either, but a lot of people are running W7 pre release.

preferred Operating system poll # 104...

As with most of the polls not created as a monthly poll it is also poorly constructed.

Other than the Monthly one i see no need for etraneous Polls ...
But others like them i see...

Polls & questions asking "What is your favourite OS/programming language/CPU/data structure etc" always strike me as a bit silly and juvenile. A bit like asking a carpenter which is his favourite chisel; the answer must be "the one that gets the job that I am doing done".

Yet another poorly constructed poll.

I know it would be difficult to list all operating systems, but no mention of Windows 2000, the Windows Server series or UNIX.

Windows 2000 is by far the most stable Windows OS so far... the review you linked to was, not surprisingly, on "unixbigots.com" which pretty much says, "bias".

CGA was primary for 3 years (1983-1986)
and was used for 7 years (1983-1990)
win 2000 went away in like 2 years
kind of like ms bob

what kind of backwards logic needs to be applied to even suggest that the time something remains in use is directly proportional to the completely personal quantity of "how good it is" anyway?

Have you ever used windows 2000? Which is to say, have you ever been put into a situation where you can actually create a informed opinion rather then a contrived opinion siphoned from the minds of Linux/Unix zealots who claim that Windows suffers from code bloat without realizing that all the Linux distros have grown in size almost as much.

aha as i said lots of people quote themselves without adding information

there's no information to add.

CGA was primary for 3 years (1983-1986)

Which gave rise to the success of Hercules and a number of other companies.

hercules was a sucess for busness because of the text quality
but was a flop for home users because of its monochrome and unsuitable for games

you have no use.

were you around when CGA was "Primary"?

I have yearbooks going from 1960 to 1990. and the focus of all the computer-related progress was business and learning applications.

smeezekitty has the typical Aspie trait of thinking he is the only person in the world, and that "everybody I know" is equivalent to "everybody", and that "everything I know" [or think I know] is equivalent to "everything". Unfortunately it is also a key trait of bumptious twerps with too much time on their hands.

exatly, excel or lotus 1,2,3 was suppose to remove that which it has.  I keep two coppies of mine a hand written one an one on my machine.

heh, ironically enough.

Really, for something historical like that- you simply cannot trust the internet at all.

Take the common held misconception that Bill gates said "640K should be enough for everybody" but he didn't. this lie is perpetuated by the internet and those who take whatever is said anywhere on it as gospel.

In either case- If I had to choose between, say, learning about world war 2 from a book written a year ago, compared to run written during and after the war, I'd have to choose the latter, although it would likely be devoid of facts known later on- those it did contain would probably be true (or at the very least NOT entirely based on conjecture).

The main thing NOT to look up on wikipedia is "controversial" stuff. Take the evolution article for instance...
