I'm trying to download Internet Explorer on a machine that has no internet browser (Darn value machines). It's connected to the internet via a network with another computer with connection/browser and so forth. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

What OS is running on that computer?
-
A machine without a browser ? ?
Interesting.
DLoad and install FireFox on that machine...
-
I've never heard of a "value machine" or any other type of machine with a legal copy of Windows that did not have the IE browser. How about some more details on that?
-
Have you tried a normal folder like my documents or my computer. Just open one of those and type the internet address of where ever you are trying to download IE. I noticed that when you do this it doesn't run IExplore.exe it runs through Explorer.exe.
-
You could just use a flash drive or external harddrive, or you could turn on File sharing with the computers and just copy it over from the computer that has internet browser over your network.
-
This should be interesting....
-
I'm watching carefully.

Don't even bother with IE. Get firefox ;) Much better.
Assuming you're using Windows classic:
Start>programs>MS-DOS prompt> type the following:
C:\windows\explorer.exe http://www.mozilla.com
then Dload firefox.
Assuming XP, goto Accessories>prompt instead of just "MS-DOS prompt".
Assuming linux, Use a package downloader.
MacOS, I know nothing.

An interesting way to open Explorer but even that won't work...

Couldn't you use Windows Update and it would give you IE7?

Ah, but how do you get to Windows Update without a browser?
-
Control Panel and set it to when you want it to check for updates.
-
If you don't have it turned off, Windows Update is also a little icon in your desk tray.
-
Indeed you can set it like that . . . I always turn it off straight away, so I forgot.
However, he'd then have to wait for IE7 to appear on the updates.
I'm more interested in how he got a Windows PC with no browser . . .
-
Considering all the trouble windows goes through to make sure you can't rid IE off of your system in the first place, I doubt he has no browser. It's easily possible he overlooked it if the shortcut wasn't on desktop ;)
-
You're right, it is virtually impossible to remove IE from Windows.
However, it is possible (in theory), but causes a lot of problems.
I think he may have looked further than just his desktop for a browser.
If he hasn't got it/can't find it, the easiest solution is probably to just put Firefox on a flash drive and install it.
Alternatively, either of fffreak's suggestions should work.
-
Meanwhile he has gone missing...maybe he found his browser ....
-
Quite possibly . . . we'd better leave a light on so he can find us . . .
-
Thanks for the entertainment folks.
Anyone bring the cola and popcorn?
Is there a way to go to add/remove
windows componants?
Again I am ROTFLMAO...When I think
To me selfs...If he's got that Wind-ers,
then he orta have the.......................
'In -The -Net Explorerer.'
Uncle Billy would be horrified if he knew this.

....with the light on.......
;D

I'm turning off the light. Just another drive by poster. ::)
-
I thin it's for the best.
Otherwise the electricity bill may overwhelm us, and we'd have to actually pay for this :o
