My dad bought a 500 gb portable harddisk. in the start it showed the correct 500 gb.. but now it only shows 103 gb.. How do i make windows "find" the ekstra 400 GB ?
Using vista
Portable harddisk is a "Verbatim" model#47501
If it is any help - my dad copied the whole system to the harddisk with a program
I have formated the disk.. didnt help

That is probably because you are using 400GB of your Hard Drive.
How are you checking?
-
Can you check the total capacity? I mean not the used space and free space. :)

Naa.. i might sound like it - but i'm not that stupid :p i saw a post some time ago talking about lost space on a HDD.. but since this is a portable HDD where there shouldnt be any system files i posted a new.. Though - talking about system files - he copied windows files too.. including system32 and everything.. it might have copied something telling the amount of space ?? thats why i formated it.. didnt help though

All right.
If after formatting, the hard drive space has gone down to 103GB, try this.
Download this HP Formatting Tool:
http://files.filefront.com/SP27608exe/;9868201;/fileinfo.html
Use it to format this hard drive back to its original storage capacity.
