Title: Windows 3.1 Display settings error.

Attached is the message I get when trying to play my game.
How do I change Win 3.11 to 256 colors?

You need to run the Windows Setup program.  Is it still available under the main program group?  Do you have appropriate drivers for your display adapter?

I just need to know how to change my display setting to 256 colors.
not reinstall.

This does not reinstall Windows.

what is your video currently set to?

are you using an emulator? If So, which one? Virtual PC, as an example, emulates the S3 Trio and as such one should install the S3 Trio drivers...

Virtual PC.

Windows Setup says the Display is set to VGA.

therein be the problem- you need to install the S3 Trio drivers for windows 3.1 onto the VM.

It's a huge PITA to find on the web... at least it was for me, so I'll attach them.


Basically, get them onto the VM; in a separate folder.

Then, with the windows setup program, select "have disk" for video; then enter the path to where you unzipped the files; it will then give you a number of options; choose one (personally I prefer the 24-bit colour options...)  :)
