Title: POST Error 8601 "All Memory Market as Fail ..
Post by: LJKRISM on March 08, 2005, 10:53:25 PM
Hi,

I am administering a Xeon Server, 4x CPU's and 2GB RAM, running Windows 2000 Terminal Server. We keep getting a POST screen error message every time we boot "All memory market as fail, forcing minimum back online".  We are forced to reboot the system on occasions as the terminal server sessions seem to freeze ?? (Separate issue perhaps).

After researching the net we are unable to find out what this means.

We didn't build the server and the guy who did is clueless. Would rather not have to open it up and play with the memory if this can be helped.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of POST message and what may be the cause and fix?

Thanks Heaps,

LJ Krism

to run  the system maybe you need windows 2003?

win2k is holding ram mem..........try knocking downing page files/storage not used.......use the task manager to manage ram better.......disable the junk? or freeramxp.load the barebones of win2k.........<<suggestions)))> soluitions of the cuff...check that the  ram sticks are ok....for the boards . check the boards.  for any damage cracks/leaning caps etc.....for a system not to pass post! well.......is the mobos up to it......

Hi, LJ.

This might help: "Memory errors status is now read from the BMC.  Because this was not done previously, error status bits have piled up in the BMC and the first time you boot with this BIOS you will probably get a message saying all of your memory is bad (POST error 8601). To clear his status, enter setup/advanced menu and select the 'memory configuration' option.  Enable 'memory retest' at the bottom of this menu and you will remove the error message. 'memory retest' option will be reset to 'Disable' in the next reboot.

"Remember to Clear CMOS after each BIOS update. Refer to the  Hardware Maintenance Manual or Product Manual for procedures to Clear CMOS."

Found it at this link:

Hope that cures what ails your server!
