I had the Norton anti-virus program about three years ago but didn't renew it. I removed it so I thought but problem started about two months ago and it's driving me crazy. If I have an email from someone and we reply back and forth several times I get this message and they do to.
This message has been processed by Symantec's AntiVirus Technology.
Unknown00000000.data was not scanned for viruses because too many nested levels of files were found.
For more information on antivirus tips and technology, visit
http://ses.symantec.com/
There is an attachment and I have to open that up and reply to the person and when I reply it doesn't use my default email program. So I went into search and found 39 Symantec files and deleted them. I thought that would stop it but it didn't. So I did another search and found 47 Norton files and deleted them. I thought that would solve the problem but it didn't. I emailed Symantec and this is what they said.
Thank you for contacting Symantec Global Enterprise Customer Care.
You should not receive the message that you are getting unless a Symantec product is installed. Have you recently purchased a new computer that could have a trial version of our product?
If you are still using the same computer that you removed the Norton AntiVirus program from, there may be some files left on the computer. If it was the Consumer product (Norton AntiVirus 2006, Norton Internet Security 2007 etc) the link below has a removal tool:
Link Edit (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?Open&src=&docid=2005011310334907&nsf=nsw.nsf&view=0&dtype=&prod=&ver=&osv=&osv_lvl=&seg=hm)
I ran the removal tool and it's still happening. I don't know what to do next.
Help!!!!! ::)

You have to remember, that you just ran CCleaner (your other thread), which might have solved your problem already, but just to make sure....
If you DO NOT any other Symantec products installed, this is what I'd do.
Download, and install RegSeeker: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/regseeker.html
Open it. Make sure, there is a checkmark in Backup before deletion box in left lower corner (it's checked by default).
Click on Find in registry, and put in search box:
Symantec
Click Search
Delete all found entries.
Repeat search, this time for:
Norton
Delete all found entries, as well.
Restart computer. Try your email.
-
I'm having a problem with "Find in registry" I can't seem to find that.
-
That whole thing did not work for me. It found stuff but wanted me to purchase the program to fix it. I'll try it again. Maybe I clicked on the wrong thing.
-
Tried it again. Not getting Backup before deletion or find in registry.
-
You sure, you downloaded RegSeeker from my link?
There is nothing to pay there. Look below:

-
At my link you didn't click on Registry Mechanic link instead of Download link
[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]
-
I clicked on the link you gave me but it didn't look like the one you just posted. ::) ::) ::)
-
A song just popped into my head for some reason:
The wheels on the bus go round and round, the wheels on the bus go round and round.
Just having some fun Broni! You are so patient and so cool!!! I just had to say something funny. That's just me.
I'm still not sure what to do. I'm trying to get someone to email me tonight to see if it's still happening but everyone is offline right now.
-
I did it again but please believe me there is nothing that says backup before deletion or find in registry. I did a print screen of what I have but I don't know how to post that here.
-
After hitting "Print screen", open MS Paint, hold CTRL button, and hit V button. It'll paste your image.
Save the file, and attach to your next post.
Anyway, when you click on my link, you don't see what I see....look below:

I think I need to take a break. This is driving me crazy right now. Thank you Broni. My computer is running to the max thanks to you. I'll check out my email problem tomorrow and if you don't mind I'll let you know what's going on with that. Maybe with all the things we did today that problem might be gone too!
You are fantastic!!!!
-
Fantastic, or not, I still need to know WHAT program you downloaded, which asked you to pay anything, and you also need to answer my other questions.
See ya tomorrow.
-
I'm trying to post my screen shot of the files I have from snapfiles and it's not working. I went to additional options...browse and clicked on my screen shot I wanted you to see and then clicked on post and nothing happened.
-
Get free version of ScreenHunter for your screenshots: http://wisdom-soft.com/products/screenhunter.htm
WAHT IS THE NAME OF THE PROGRAM, YOU DOWNLOADED?
-
regseeker
-
...and when you open it, it doesn't look like below:
[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]
-
But, I'll see your answer only tomorrow :)
-
no
-
:o
-
OK. Try this link, then: http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm
Night :)
-
It was uniblu something or other. I deleted it.
-
I don't know what's going on there. When you go to my link, it looks like this:
[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]
-
I downloaded it again but then I don't get that screen. It just places a folder somewhere that says regseeker. It's not working for me for some reason.
-
It just places a folder somewhere that says regseeker
Where do you have that folder?
Does it have RegSeeker.exe file in it? If so, double click on it.
-
I'm running a search for it.
My emails are still coming in the same way. :'(
-
Oh my word I finally got it going. I entered Symantec and it found 14 items. Should I delete all of them?
-
I deleted 10 that had the word symantec in it but the other four doesn't say symantec but it must be safe to delete them because that's what I asked it to search for.
-
There were 8 Norton files in there. Maybe this is going to work!!! :)
-
Delete all of them, even, if you need to enter Safe Mode.
I'll be leaving soon, so I'll check on you later.
-
I didn't them all and my emails are still coming in with that message. Yikes!!! I don't get it.
-
Everytime I run regseeker it finds those three symantec files. I delete them and the next time I run it they are there. I have turned off system restore and restarted my computer then run it again and those three are there. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
-
but the other four doesn't say symantec
Are they the above registry entries, which won't go away?
This message has been processed by Symantec's AntiVirus Technology.
Unknown00000000.data was not scanned for viruses because too many nested levels of files were found.
This message may be just included with the email of the person, who is sending back the message, or even ISP.
Does your contact on the other end use Norton?
Ask them, if the above signature is included in your FIRST mail to them.
-
This happens with two people that I email back and forth on a daily basis. Neither one of them have Norton or Symantec.
I deleted the four files that you asked about. When I did the search for Symantec they were amont the 18 files that I deleted. Then I did another search and then it found the other three which I can't seem to get rid of.
-
Ask them, if the above signature is included in your FIRST mail to them.
...or it happens AFTER they reply, and YOU can see that Norton signature.
-
Thanks Broni. I'll ask them and get back to you.
-
Anytime...:)
-
I got one answer so far. This is what she said:
It happens when you go to reply.
I think she means it's not in the first email it's when we reply.
-
It's unclear. We must know, at what point of exchanging messages, Norton's signature appears.
-
I send an email to her, she replies and then when I reply to her this time is when it has that message. She can't even see my email. All she sees is that message.
-
when I reply it doesn't use my default email program
What happens, when you try to reply? What email program opens?
-
Outlook Express. I have to open an attachment to see the email and then if I try to reply it opens Outlook Express.
-
Wait, originally, you check your mail with what program?
-
I have my default email program set up with Incredimail.
-
So, you open your friend's mail with Incredimail, and when you try to reply, Outlook Express opens?
-
correct.
-
I'm not familiar with Incredimail. You'll have to check its settings. Does that situation happen with all of your mail, or with just some people?
-
It only happens with these two people because they are the only ones I reply back and forth with.
-
Maybe they have some malware on their computer, which causes this.
Last time, we checked, your computer was clean.
You're talking about two different people, or one couple?
-
Two different people. No connection.
-
As I said, I know nothing about Incredimail.
Why don't you use, either Outlook Express, or Thunderbird for a couple of days, and see if same thing will happen.
-
I really don't want to use another email program because I love Incredimail so I've been trying to solve this problem. I learned one thing from this. Once you have Symantec installed on your system there is no way you are going to get rid of it!!! It's there forever no matter what you do!! I have emailed Symantec and they keep giving me the run around. I emailed Incredimail and they don't have an answer. Tonight I went into my backup file. When I got this computer about three years ago I had my computer guy ;) take the drive out of the old one and install it into this one for backup. Tonight I looked into my backup files and sure enough there was a Symantec folder. Now wouldn't you think when you did a whole procedure to remove Symantec from your computer that it would be gone! Oh no it isn't. It's there folks lurking forever. I don't know if this has solved the problem yet. I have asked friends to email me to test it out. Film at 11!!!!
Beware of Symantec! I never had a problem deleting any other program and the weird thing is I didn't have a problem until recently which is three years later!!! ??? ???
-
Well I just found out that I am still having this problem. I would like to take Symantec and wring it's ugly neck. I don't know what to do now! I just want to freaking scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Try one more registry cleaner: http://www.eusing.com/free_registry_cleaner/registry_cleaner.htm
I use it. It's safe.
-
I don't know which one to click Broni.
-
I guess again I'm clicking on the wrong place because I get for the registry code $15.
Got to go!
-
There is nothing for $15 there...
Look below...
[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]
-
Here we go again.
After downloading it asks for a registration code which will cost me $15.
I'm done tonight. I can't believe how much time I've spent on this problem. What is up with this? Night.
-
I don't remember all installation steps, but it's a donationware, which means, you can skip paying.
-
I did download it and ran it but I still have the same problem. ???
-
Try to reinstall Incredimail.
-
I'll work on that Broni. I just have so many great things in my Incredimail files that I don't want to lose. I'll see if I can back them all up and uninstall and then reinstall. Thanks.
-
First, you may try to reinstall over the top (without uninstalling)
-
Oh, I misunderstood. I'll try that if it's possible.
-
Yeah. That shouldn't (in theory...hehe...you know, computers) touch your data.
-
Okay I did that and everything looks the same but I won't know if it worked until someone emails me and we email back and forth a few times. After a few times that's when I get that message.
-
Let's wait, and see :)
-
Well I lost all my Incredimail files. I had hundreds of them that I've been collecting over the years. Hard to explain if you don't have Incredimail. It's all messed up now. I have to see if I can retrieve them some how. What a nightmare this has been.
-
I just want to scream now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Well I've tried system restore and everything and my whole Incredimail program is a done deal. Wow!!! I can't believe this has happened.
-
I'm truly sorry for your problem.
I should have known better, and ask you twice to backup you data anyway.
Try this: http://www.download3k.com/System-Utilities/Other-Utilities/Download-Nucleus-Incredimail-Recovery.html
It has demo version, which will show you, if your mail can be recovered.

I'm running it now. :'(
-
Well that didn't work. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling Incredmail again and I still didn't get my files back. I had some great things in those files and now they are all gone. :P
-
I don't know what to say. I feel bad about all this.
-
I have a computer tech coming tomorrow morning around 9 am. I let you know what he says.
-
I'll pray...
-
Me too!!! :)
-
Well he checked everything in the system and couldn't find any symantec or norton. He copied and pasted the message that I'm getting into google and a bunch of things came up. Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem and there doesn't seem to be an answer yet.
http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=30518&sid=de0bce794175cdc6b515752baf6c653c
He did say that everything looks really good and that my system is very happy! :)
-
Apparently I'm not the only one having this problem and there doesn't seem to be an answer yet.
Actually the link had a pretty good answer. The Ahuma forums are well respected. It isn't anything to do with your computer, it is coming from a server that the email passes through.
-
So, we're back to one of my very first suspicions:
This message may be just included with the email of the person, who is sending back the message, or even ISP
- post #32....
Oh, well....at least computer is doing fine
-
I'm not going to worry about it anymore. When I start to get that message I'll just copy and paste into a new email and tell the other person to do the same thing. It's just an annoyance. Thanks for trying to help.
