Whenever I close Firefox and then restart it, it always opens not maximized and with all my toolbars open, which I don't want. No matter how I set it and then close the window, it does the same thing when I open it again.
I read that you can right click on the top bar and set something for advanced options, but when I right click the top bar all I get is Restore, Minimize, Close, etc.
I ran CCleaner and SpySweeper yesterday, clearing my firefox cache, cookies, history, and dl history, and I don't know all that SpySweeper cleared, but I think it stopped some registry key from working. I've tried reinstalling FireFox, but that did nothing. I'm afraid of uninstalling it then reinstalling it, since if it's not a FireFox related problem I might delete all my bookmarks and extensions/themes and still not fix the problem.
It seems extremely unlikely that it's a virus/malware related problem, but that could be it too. Can someone help?
Oh, I just noticed something else too. When I go to Bookmarks -> Bookmark this page, I try to click "Ok" but nothing happens and it won't let me save the bookmark unless I go to the Bookmark Manager.
-
What if you uninstall it and then reboot and install the latest version? Sometimes the easiest fix works.
-
I have the same problem and its been happening since about 2 updates ago.
Also every time my firefox is updated i lose all my bookmarks and favi icons etc.
-
Then you need this free accessory to save all your bookmarks, etc.:

Okay, uninstalling FireFox didn't remove any of my settings anyways, and the problem persists.
Also, when I was on today, every several mins I will hear clicking, like a link trying to open up, but nothing apparently happened. Also, when I'm typing, it'll suddenly stop having FF as my main window or something, like I clicked in an empty place on the taskbar, where the top bar of the screen turns light.
So I'm afraid this is a problem that's not just my FireFox, but I can't find any problems. I really need help now...

Thanks very much, I didn't even realise that extension existed!
-
Well nothing I'm doing is helping.
I'm just afraid there's a big underlying problem. Small FF errors aren't too bad.
-
Oh, also all my search engines cleared and won't let me install any more.
EDIT: I was just prompted to install IE Plugin (security center alerted me said it could be dangerous)... Well I didn't install it so just asking if that might be anything.
-
Are you using reputable virus/malware protection?
-
No Norton but I'm using Spy Sweeper.
Adaware and Spybot too but those don't clear viruses/malware.
-
And what for viruses?
-
I used Norton for a while but not any more.
Is there anything I should get? I think SpySweeper deletes viruses, since I know it dleeltes a trojan, but if not, I need to get something for viruses.
-
You MUST have antivirus or you're asking for trouble. >:(
Try this:

Well I ran a HouseCall scan yesterday, but the fact that I used IE just like gave me popups now. I'll dl and antivirus.
-
After you install AVG make sure to grab any available updates...then turn off System Restore and re-boot into Safe Mode and run a full AVG scan.
When this is finished re-boot into Normal Mode and un-install FireFox in the Add Remove Programs section of Control Panel
DLoad and install the latest ver. opf FireFox and let us know how it goes...

Same Firefox problems, but I think my popups are fixed.
-
Only other thing i can think to try...
Tools / Options/ General/ this is where you can select your Start Page...try changing it to another page temporarily, close down all FireFox windows and restart FireFox and see if it works.
BTW which extensions do you have installed ? ? Some are known to bang heads with each other and cause odd things to happen.

Well that worked correctly, strangely enough.
I have ForecastFox, Gamefox, Fasterfox, Greasemonkey, and IE Tab. The thing is none of those caused any trouble before, until the virus thing.
Oh, when I turn off the computer it tells me something failed to initialize because the window station is shutting down. I can't get the name since it passes so fast, but it's a sign of a trojan, right?
-
Congrats !
Well we got there finally.
Just think too how squeaky-clean that machine is now...( no extra charge since we had fun)
The only Extension you mentioned i'm not familiar with would be GameFox...
Other than that you should be good to go.
seeya,

No, I mean I can change my homepage but I still can't save bookmarks or start up maximized.
And I may still have trojan problems. My IE has ads, and stuff I open with IETab, but not my FF.

DLoad and run Ewido....grab the updates before you run the complete system scan.
I'd suggest running it in SafeMode with System Restore dis-abled...
