Title: RAM, Graphics Chip, Shared Memory
Post by: psyco7384 on March 18, 2009, 03:55:05 AM
256mb of RAM and 32mb graphics chip. 32 is 12% of 256.
Those are the specs of my laptop. If I incress the RAM to 1gb will the graphics chip go up to 123mb(122.88), 12%? Is that how it works or will my graphics chip alway be 32mb?

Who said anything about gaming? I wanted to know if incressing RAM would it incress the graphics chip, since a graphics chip is integrated to your motherboard and therefore you can't upgrade it. Don't recall asking anything about gaming or what a good gaming computer is.

Depends on the chip but i would bet if it's using 32 now that's what it will use with the new RAM.
There will be a performance gain overall but if you're thinking of gaming laptops aren't the greatest for that task.

Alienware M-15X or Alienware M-17X are really good gaming laptops. They both have 9800M graphics cards on it, and 9800's are still good graphics cards despite all the new ones coming out.

Given that you have equivalent parts for laptop and desktop, desktop should beat out the laptop but alienware gaming laptops are smoking hot but it comes with a big price tag  :D

I just wondered .... why are they making laptops for gaming if laptops are strictly non gaming machines?
