Mozilla has already delayed the release of Firefox 3.1 several times in order to work out all the problems in the latest builds of the new web browser. Now the development team has decided that 3.1 doesn't describe the significance of this the upcoming release. The next major version of Firefox will be called Firefox 3.5 (https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox3.1/StatusMeetings/2009-03-04#Firefox_3.1_Development).

Just a FYI: mentioned on the Mozilla blog that this isn't finalized so it could potentially be kept at 3.1 or be a different revision number in the future.
-
just so long as they don't call it Firefox 2009... :P

I've been running 3.1 beta 2 for some time without any problems, so I'm wondering what the issues are.

If I understood the articles correctly there are no problems, it's that they believe .1 doesn't dignify or seem to suggest the amount of new changes that will be released with it when it will be finally released.
-
I expected it to be released by now.
Maybe they are awaiting the IE8 final release and try to steal some of the MS thunder. ;D
-
I can wait....
Firefox is fine now. Why change?
-
Maybe they were waiting for the latest Safari release with Apple claiming to be the fastest browser on the Internet.

Apple's always making specious claims like that.
-
But the funny thing is. Chrome uses webkit like apple safari does and apple copies chrome's designs. How unoriginal.
I'd not mind firefox going to 3.5 as long as we get some good upgrades and the RTM version of firefox's next version is stable.
As much as I'm not using IE unless I have to, it's at least getting a better look in the RC than ie7.

So sort of similar with the whole Winamp 2, 3, 5?
They thought the jump in features was so significant, a v4 simply wasn't viable.
-
even rewriting the entire app from the ground up shouldn't warrant a jump of two versions. I mean, if that was the case they should have called Mario brothers 3 mario brothers 4, "yeah, he has a tail and can fly and stuff, that's a big jump in features"
although I suppose that's not quite the same context...

Nope....it isn't.
