If something doesn't work in 2 weeks old laptop, who is gonna pay for the repairs, when the warranty expires, and something is wrong again?

But try a different disk and if that doesnt work take it back. I was going to say that after the OP tried a different disk because the disk just may be bad

Yes i have tried different disk
It was bought over the internet so it would be as case of boxing it up and mailing back,
I thought my 1st option would be to ask the boffs on here 1st who have helped me on a number of occasions (220 post worth) ;D
After googling ,it seems a common fault on this particular optical device running on vista,So come on any ideas before i start boxing it ,i have thought of reinstall ,i have a recovery disk but again that is another of my last options

What Squall meant was using the Vista installation Repair function...

That Drive name seems familiar, can you perhaps 'hot swap' this drive?
I.e remove it, replace it without shutting down?

Not true :)

I have had two laptops now, that had a switch similar to the PCMCIA cards, that allowed you to remove the DVD Rom drive while you were using the laptop, and then replace it whenever you liked.

Ok sorted nothing spectacular
Even though the optical drive wasn't in my computer and it wouldn't play disks,
I tried a few things after googling ,i went for the recovery cd that came with the computer,
and for reasons i don't know it worked '
The asus have a recovery disk that is exclusively to them
Insert disk and reboot pressing F9 and it installs giving 3 different options of reinstall i went for the first
