Did you try a different disk?
-
New lap top couple of weeks old
Bring it back to the store.
-
i was going to suggest that but I figured.. why do that if it might be something obvious you know?
-
If something doesn't work in 2 weeks old laptop, who is gonna pay for the repairs, when the warranty expires, and something is wrong again?
-
But try a different disk and if that doesnt work take it back. I was going to say that after the OP tried a different disk because the disk just may be bad
-
True. We'll see, if the poster will come back, though...;D
-
They have 220 posts... I think they might come back some day....
-
More, than one of them?.....LOL
-
Yes i have tried different disk
It was bought over the internet so it would be as case of boxing it up and mailing back,
I thought my 1st option would be to ask the boffs on here 1st who have helped me on a number of occasions (220 post worth) ;D
After googling ,it seems a common fault on this particular optical device running on vista,So come on any ideas before i start boxing it ,i have thought of reinstall ,i have a recovery disk but again that is another of my last options

Make arrangements to just shio the optical drive back instead of the whole machine...
-
could try a simple repair
-
And can you enlighten us what the repair may be? I wouldnt even repair it if its only 2 weeks old. Do as patio said
-
vista repair like cp had a repair not sure though dont do vista but heard that there was such a thing.
-
Uhh wow squall. Just wow thats all I have to say
Did you read the post?!?!?!! Their CD drive isnt working at all!
-
I understand that, just thought he may have tried something or such, attempting a lot of differnt things so sorry
-
Why would he have tried a repair install ??? ??? You confuse me
-
thought he got the drive fixed multi threads and post installs and tests an such..... at the moment is what I am doing so if I got lost sorry.... :-\
-
What Squall meant was using the Vista installation Repair function...
That Drive name seems familiar, can you perhaps 'hot swap' this drive?
I.e remove it, replace it without shutting down?
-
to my knowdlge only usb is. That is correct.
-
Not true :)
I have had two laptops now, that had a switch similar to the PCMCIA cards, that allowed you to remove the DVD Rom drive while you were using the laptop, and then replace it whenever you liked.
-
Ok sorted nothing spectacular
Even though the optical drive wasn't in my computer and it wouldn't play disks,
I tried a few things after googling ,i went for the recovery cd that came with the computer,
and for reasons i don't know it worked '
The asus have a recovery disk that is exclusively to them
Insert disk and reboot pressing F9 and it installs giving 3 different options of reinstall i went for the first
