Title: reformatting making me insane
Post by: fuzzypumpkins on October 06, 2007, 12:13:39 AM
I have been trying to reformat win xp pro. I have the cd. I put it in. I selected "boot from cd" etc, etc. When I turn my pc on and it goes into the setup menu, it doesn't even get to the place where i can delete partitions. It just doesn't exist or something. I don't know what to do. The only thing I can do is repair or install a clean copy of xp. But I tried both. Repairing doesn't do anything, and when I install a new copy, all my programs are still there. Its like it doesn't work. Any ideas?

I JUST WANT TO PLAY SOME GAMES ON MY NEW 8800!!AHHHHHHHHH

You may have a bad XP install disk,or a bad CD-rom.

Did you follow the recommended steps exactly?
Quote
Next, Windows will give you the option to repair Windows XP or to install a fresh copy if Windows XP is already installed on the computer. If you're wanting to install a new copy of Windows XP press ESC.
Next, the partition setup will appear, it is recommended that if a partition already exists and you do not plan on having multiple operating systems on the computer that you delete the existing partition before continuing the setup. You will know if a partition exists if you see anything other then "Unpartitioned space".

I did exactly as all the guides have told me how to delete the partition.  I tried to do exactly what you told me to do.  But, when I was at the step where the "delete partition" option was supposed to be, IT WASNT THERE.  I already told you that.  I don't have an option to delete any partition at all.  So I listened to kaszmania, and all worked fine.  Thanks to kaszmania.
