Title: Plays some dvds but not others

My nec nd 3520aw will play some older dvds but most will not play, I get a no media error. It will also play the disc 2 extras discs but not the disc 1 movies. HELP!

Can you give us some more info on your system?
And what application are you using to play the DVDs?
What is the exact error message?
Any other problems?
Does it read other media, like DVD games, audio CDs, data DVD/CDs?

XP. I have always used Cineplayer and WinDVD, this just started happening out of the blue. It plays all cds and data cds, just select (very few) dvds. I don't get any error messages, just no media when I try to open players or "please insert disc" when I try to access the drive. No other problems, it used to work flawlessly.

How old is the drive? Has it had a rough life?

How about trying that drive in another computer and a different drive in this one? Let's see where the problem really is.
