Post by: Dead_reckon on July 31, 2006, 06:11:32 PM
need to get rid of this .exe, i cannot have it using 10k of my limited memory, i tryed ending it (with kill proccess) it ends, so i tryed to delete the exe with dos, and manually, neither worked with the proccess running, or not running, i know this isnt crucial to windows, just some stupid feature, i need to end it perminitly

Killbox can get rid of stubborn files. What is the origin of it?

Reckon:

Inetinfo.exe is part of the Microsoft IIS:

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/inetinfo/

To stop it, you must stop the IIS service in Windows, but why would you want to do that?

its just a useless running proccess that is eating up what little memory i have

EDIT: i have 1008mb's of DDR 400 PC3200 ram, 10k = 10 megs = 1 eleventh (rounded) of my memory going to a completly useless process, now, does that seem like a good enough reason to you for me to post this? 16mb's of my ram is ALWAYS going to onboard video memory, stupid crap cant be turned off

... i would like a sugguestion on how to remove this, evertything that was mentioned has failed, so whats next?

I already did suggest how to stop the process.  I'll repeat the suggestion if you like:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/95826e7a-bac4-4e1f-bcb6-c52d49c9d7f4.mspx?mfr=true

Did you receive some error message when you tried this?  If so, what did it say?

D_R:

It is possible it is a Trojan Horse or worm masquerading as a legitimate Windows process:

This is where the error of the math is. As 10K does NOT equal 10 megs, you need to redo the math.

10K is what you call "very small". 10 megs is what you call "much larger".  ;)

no error, just didnt work, but i finally tried it enough so it worked, no more inetinfo but... now theres "vsmon" that uses 19k of memory that just appeared after inetinfo went down... i cant win for loosing here, every time i fix this, somthing worse takes its place...`

Vsmon is a process associated with your ZoneAlarm firewall.  Right-click the ZA icon in the Windows notification area (next to the clock) and choose the option to exit or disable it, if that is what you want.

See this site:

http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/vsmon/

BTW, the above link is to a good site for checking out all those unknowns in Task Manager, as is this one:

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/vsmon/

I like them better than others because all i have to do is enter the name of the process at the end of the URL in the Address box of my Web browser.

Take it easy,
