Title: unwanted POP created when editing a sound wave
Post by: jimmer on November 29, 2007, 06:26:16 PM
I recorded my kids at school reading a play, and I'm editing it. Each time I split the track to make a change, I create a POP. If I simply split the recorded track and separate the blocks, leaving nothing but empty silence between, and then replay it, I have an irritating POP before and after the silence--meaning, I think, that this isn't about zero crossings. Wondering about DC offset, I (also) checked the appropriate box to adjust for that--no luck. I'm using Windows ME and Cool Edit. A friend with XP and Cool Edit doesn't create any unwanted sound when he takes the same steps. I'm completely in the dark, but I'm wondering if his Sound Blaster Live sound card  makes the difference. Can anyone shed some light on all this? We'll have a great radio play when I find a way to avoid creating the problem as I edit.

I would try a different sound editing software. There are loads of free ones available, try searching at http://www.download.com/
