hey..i come for help and assistance...
i cant seem to get to anything websites that dont start with www like mail.yahoo. What is going on? Firewall settlngs are normal. Using firefox...doesnt seem to work with explorer either. It brings up the website then imediately says that it "cannot establish a connection"...what is going on?
-
How about some details like what preceeded this? Malware protection? Operating system? Anything?
See below.

I could be wrong but i believe all websites start with www....
-
Actually, that's not true. For example, http://support.microsoft.com/. Another example: My ISP is EarthLink. If I logon to their WebMail service to check email, the URL starts with https://webmail.earthlink.net/. Or, if use the personal web space that my EarthLink account entitles me to use for a personal website, the URL would be http://home.earthlink.net/~myusername/.
Apparently, as indicated by the original post, Yahoo Mail users have a URL starting with mail.yahoo when they check their mail via a web browser.

im not sure what happend before...i didnt install anything new...search for spyware..none....check the router settings...looks okay..have it on default. i found out it wasnt all web sites that didnt start with www. just sites that start with mail or bank sites. im thinking it might a security thing...anyway to find out if i have ssl on my browers?
-
Your OS? What browser(s) do you have? Your bank may have a support line for Internet banking. Mine does. Have you contacted them?
Can you logon to any site which uses a secure mode, as indicated by the first part of the URL, http, changing to https, and the browser showing an image of a lock in locked status, on the status bar?

Depends on what the webmaster wants. You could have www.computerhope.com but also website.computerhope.com.
That's how they host all those free message boards, through sub domains as they are called I believe..

googled every phrase i could think of and coudnt find anything...any solutions?
-
Operating system? What browser are you using?
-
win xp.....both Mozilla 1.5.0.7 and IE 6.0.2900...and its just sites that require security. When i go to about IE...it shows 128 encryption. i dont know....couldnt find anything in the microsoft database :-?
-
Take a look at this in IE. Go to Tools, Internet Options, Advanced, and scroll down to Security. Are the boxes for SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 checked? If not, check them and click on Apply. Now, try browsing to a financial site. Any joy?
