Title: MS Word - Symbol to Times font

I saved a document in the 'Symbol' font and when I reopened the file and tried to change the font back to Times new Roman all I can see is boxes. It is the same if I try to change the font to anything other than wingdings or other symbol type fonts. How to I fix this.
