Title: Lapton not powering up
Post by: pk on September 02, 2008, 07:03:47 AM
Hi,
I use a Dell Inspiron 6400 which runs on Win Vista Untimate. I have not made any recent software or hardware additions. In the past week, whenever I left it in hibernation mode, I would return to find it either off or it would refuse to power up unless I switch it off then on again. So most of the time I would rather put it off when I'm leaving it for a while than put it into hibernation.

Today, it wont power up at all. The power LED will come on and the num lock, caps lock and other LEDs will flash as if it is about to power up but thats where it ends. The power LED however remains on. I have tried several times but nothing works.

I took out the battery and power and allowed it to rest for 10 mins but still nothing happened.

Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Percy.

When you press the power button, is there anything on the screen?
Any beeps?

Nothing at all on the screen. No beep when I power it on. There is only a very faint beep when I press the power botton again to switch it off

If that faint beep has been there since you got the computer, that's fine.

Try unplugging everything and then replugging it immediately.
Also, I would try removing the RAM and trying each stick at a time.
