Title: Can you use a wireless aircard with a desktop/home computer????
Post by: aces67 on April 21, 2007, 04:31:28 PM
I can't get DSL where I live at. Cingular is telling me I can buy a wireless air card and use it on my personal computer to get internet at my home.

Is this true?? One of their employees tells me it will work the other says it won't.

I want high speed internet for the cheapest price I can get it. I can get a satellite internet but the start up on it is $600.00. The wireless card is much cheaper.

Thanks!!!

if its being used in a notebook/ laptop I don't see why not.
If cingular says it will work, contact the local office in your area and verify before purchasing.

"desktop"  <<< where do you intend to slide this card into a desktop ?

A wireless laptop card will not fit into a desktop without a PCMCIA to PCI adapter...a pretty clunky setup...contact Cingular and see if the service will work with a wireless PCI card...

I just purchased a verizon aircard with a USB connector and it works well on my PC and I have DSL speed with 1-2 bars I also tried the ATT card and it didn't work as well but that might be my location.
