Hi, been having this problem, in common with a lot of others it would seem from this forum.
Try to open up programs and an error message pops up saying 'application cannot be executed. the file --------- is infected. Do you want to activate your antivirus software now?' It does this for most programs excepting firfox and IE.
It seems like this is the place to come for help with such a problem, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok that seems good and all fairly straightforward. Before I start I have one problem though. In the first post on that page it mentions that if you are running XP you need to have 'service pack 1a' installed. A few years have passed since that post was made, and I am running windows 7 right now. Does this affect how I follow these instructions? At any rate, I can find no trace of a 'service pack' 1a or otherwise.

don't worry about it - just follow the instructions. Thanks.

Ok cheers buddy.

So should i download the service pack for windows 7 then? Sorry this will be my last question before i start. It looks straightforward from here.

I have found a friend who is experienced as an IT professional at a bank, he is going to help me take care of this problem. Sorry to have wasted everyone's time here. This is a great website, i'll come back if there are any problems that my friend cant solve. In the meantime i will probably stay and read the forums, maybe post if i feel i can add something. Thank you everyone!
