Hello everyone,
I recently noticed a small square on my monitor that appears to be just frozen there. I've never experienced anything like this before and wouldn't know of anyone that has had this kind of problem.
I can still play games normally and doesn't appear to be screwing up my processes. If anything else it's just really annoying.
I've tried rebooting, but it just moved it to a different area, this is new to me so I wouldn't know what else to try. It looks to be about a 1/2 x 1/2 inch square. I'm running Windows XP on a Dell XPS 400
If anyone has any information on what it is, or knows how to get rid of it. Help would be truly appreciated.
I can provide a screen shot if needed, or if further information is needed, I can give that as well
Thanks in advance
-
Give us a screen shot...

Okay, Here it is.

You can see it's in the lower right corner, right now it's showing that area of my desktop background, it changes often to something that runs over it

I tried the CCleaner, still no luck, however it does have the tendency to disappear, but will return within minutes

see if you can find a forum for them or contact them

Have you removed any program/software lately?....looks like part of a program might have stayed when you removed it.
-

-
wait, what? no!. wait...

the picture, is linking to the hosting site. i was giving an example.
most picture sites give the "post on a forum" code that looks like

Nothing happens when I put my cursor over it, or click it...It's as if it were a part of the desktop, but just alot slower than the rest of the screen. And it has somehow gotten worse, I am beginning to see very frequent flashes of it during gaming, I still don't believe it impedes the performance, it's...just...really really annoying
-
well this could or could not be a virus problem
im not a specialist. so download Hijackthis (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/_download/HJTInstall.exe)
* Double-click on HJTInstall.
* Click on the Install button.
* It will automatically place HJT in C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button
* HijackThis will scan and then a log will open in notepad.
* Copy and Paste the entire contents of the log in your next post.

...are you the op?

You can follow this link to your HJT process tool report and follow directions for cleaning.....you really should be running an antivirus program.........as a matter of fact you should run Malwarebytes and Superantispyware first then post a fresh HJT.

I was running Avg Internet Security, however I thought that might of been the problem seeing that it started the day I installed it..I just haven't gotten to get another one to replace it

o right , very late i would call it ::) ::) ;D
-
yes i know ::)
-
It's actually an HTML link. You can disable it following these steps..
Right click on the desktop
Click on Properties
Go to the desktop tab
Click on customize desktop below all the picture options
It should pull up a Desktop items box
Click on the Web tab and you will see there the object that is stuck on your desktop
Just delte it and you should be good to go :)
Hope this helps you!

It can't be,
when i clicked on the square this is what i got have you been in this site
http://imagefra.me/
By him being able to click on it and link to a website it shows that it's a HTML link. It's a new kind of forced adverstising that websites are doing to build up hits.
-
that was confusuion
that wasnt the original poster
-
*sigh*
harry isn't the one with the square on his screen. hhe clicked the linked picture the o.p. put up. LINKED picture.
so far the o.p. has said it does nothing, its just annoying. NOT A LINK.
-
Reguardless, I'm almost 100% sure that it's a html blotch and can be removed by doing as I posted.
-
" sigh " indeed

-
I read that, but I have seen it where it was a HTML link and times where it would just sit there and do nothign. However when you follow those directions it will show you it as being a html link even if it doesn't link out.
