Title: Not A Good Computer Week
Post by: AgentBauer on August 24, 2008, 10:03:53 AM
Now my daughters laptop has issues. She LOST the Windows XP boot up cd. Anyway, she put in a movie then all of a sudden the laptop came up with a screen that says:
Windows could not start following file is missing or corrupt
/Windows/System 32/Config/System. We cannot get to the desktop, NOTHING! just this screen with the above message. Anything I can do to restore her windows xp on her laptop? I have a windows cd but it is VISTA so I guess that wont help.

You can go to your local computer shop and you should be able to get an XP CD.

Yep, registry is corrupted. You need Windows CD. You can borrow one to run repair, though.

Thanks everyone...actually went to purchase a cd from the local computer store but spoke to someone who was knowledgable in Gateways and told me that all it would do is restore my windows but none of the other applications would work that I NEED the restore cds from Gateway which turn out to be much cheaper than the $200 to purchase Windows cd..........instead it costs $20 for replacements and have to wait about 10 days to be delivered..........THANKS ALL

If you don't have any data to lose, it's definitely cheaper option, but....sooner, or later everyone needs Windows CD.

You do understand that running that CD will first wipe the drive and then take your system back to Day One status...

All your data and any additional programs you had installed since then will be gone....

Make sure this is what you want.
