Ok, I have just reinstalled xp and all the drivers for a recovery disk and I went to plug in my usb mouse that was working on the pc before I reinstalled, and now I get nothing? Any ideas?
PC:
IBM Netvista 8311
used IBM Recovery Disk
Mouse:
Microsoft Optical mouse
Windows:
XP Pro
Thanks for the help M.

Did you remember to re-install your MBoard drivers ? ?
This is often overlooked.
-
I am not sure what mboard drivers are. Also wouldn't them have been on the recovery disk that I got from the manufacture?
-
Sometimes yes...sometimes no.
It would be labelled Driver CD.
Or did the mouse ship with a driver CD ? ?
If not check the manuf. website and see.
-
the mouse I am trying to use is a personal one I bought. I down loaded the driver for the mouse but when I put it on the pc it still doesn't work? ???
Mouse:
Microsoft Notebook Optical Mouse/Model 1020

The drivers Microsoft recommends are---->Here (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/DownloadResult.aspx?prod=m_nom07&os=XP_32&lang=en&driverVersion=IntelliPoint%206.2%20(32bit)%20for%20Windows%20XP)
-
I have tried that driver already and the outcome was zero. Any other thoughts???
-
Did you install service pack 2 ?
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html
-
Ok, I have updated to SP2 and still no luck. I looked under manage and saw that I have unknown devices and PCI Simple communications controller with ?, I dont understand why I have these I used the manufactures disk? Any other ideas??????
By the way thanks for your help.

I also looked under USB and I ran a program testing the usb ports and it said they were operating fine. It said no software or anything needs to be updated. So I am not sure what else I can do???
-
I would buy a brand new PS2 keyboard and mouse...
-
That would work but it works with the ps2 fine but just not with usb ports.
-
Do you have any USB setting in the BIOS?
Have you tried the below site?---->Diagnostics (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-42954.html#bios)

I looked under manage and saw that I have unknown devices and PCI Simple communications controller with ?,
This indicates a missing MBoard driver...but i'm repeating myself.
-
Since nothing else has worked and you know more than I do (patio) what are Mboad drivers?
You said they would be on my recover disk but all 4 disks that I received have the same info on them and I do not really know what to look for????

Motherboard drivers.
Download and run Everest Home and save the report as a text file...
This will tell you exactly what hardware you have and we can help tracking down the appropiate drivers.
No need to get huffy
And i didn't say they would neccessarily be on your recovery disks...
See above.
-
I was not trying to be huffy I was just stating that you knew more than me and I was going to follow your advice.

Here you go and thanks for your help.
