My brother in law has a laptop running Vista and when he tries to watch videos on You Tube he gets this message (you have an older version of flashflayer or your Java is turned off?). He has downloaded the latest version of Flashplayer (more than once) so it should be up to date, unless there is an older version still on it that it's trying to use.
1 how do I uninstall older versions of Flashplayer if this is the case? I can't find Flashplayer in 'Program files' > 'Adobe' folder.
Also if Java is turned off how do I turn it on? I thought this setting was in 'Internet Options' > 'Advanced' but I can't find any entries for Java there.

When you got into ctrl-alt-del. Look in task manager under processes.
Is jusched.exe running as a process?

What browser is he running? FireFox? If that is so, would he happen to have a script controlling add-on installed? Like NoScript? or FlashBlock?

He has both installed but uses IE mostly since some of his software will not run correctly with FF. But I tried viewing You Tube videos with FF and got the exact same error message. I'll check his FF add-ons later today to see if he has NoScript or FlashBlock installed and enabled and post what I find.

Also, just in case, I ran Secunia PSI and it found older versions of Java so I uninstalled those and got the same message with You Tube and other video sites. There were a couple of other insecure programs listed in the Secunia advanced results that I didn't have time yesterday to correct, but neither of them were anything I would think has an effect on this Flashplayer/Java issue (Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook I think}.

Sorry. I believe I worded my response wrong. I believe I did uninstall all Java including version 6 update 16 before re-downloading/installing but when I get back to the PC later today I will do this again (uninstall/reinstall) just to be sure.

You may be right. My thread title is wrong. The error says "javascript". I'm still on my PC at home but I uninstalled Java from this PC and You Tube still works with IE or FF. But in FF, if I go to 'Tools > Options > Content' and de-select 'Enable Javascript' and selected to 'Enable Java' then I get the same message he gets on his laptop. (Print screen}
When the FF options are set to 'enable java' - but de-selected for 'enable Javascript' I still get the error message.
When the FF options are set to 'de-select for enable Java' but selected for 'Enable Javascript' You Tube videos play fine.
So it's Javascript that FF needs to play videos.
But with IE on my PC I can go to Internet Options > Security and dissable 'Scripting of Java Applets' > restart IE = it still plays videos fine. That's all I see for Java in XP. How do I Dissable Javascvript in IE to test You Tube Vids on my computer (XP) and how to enable javascript in Vista for his laptop?
BTW: I'm still waiting for him to get home so we can do surgury on the real PC patient.

I just talked to him on the phone and he said the 'Enable Java' and 'Enable Javascript' boxes are checked in FF Options > Content. So that's not the culprit. (You Tube doesn't play in FF either).
I'll be at his house later to check the other and post what I find.

Yes, jusched.exe is running
The only FF add-on installed is .net framework helper
In IE Internet options > Security > custom level > scripting = Active Scripting is enabled
All versions of Java have been uninstalled and the latest version installed.
Next?

Previous information about whether "jusched.exe" is running I got from him and may not have been correct. I am on the problem PC now and do not see jusched.exe running in task manager with either IE or FF.
I got videos to play in IE. The problem was the add-on "Shockwave Flash Object" was dissabled.
But I still get the same error in FF.

Ok I got videos playing in FF. I'm not sure but I believe the culprit was that he had 'Accept Cookies from sites' turned off in 'Tools > Privacy.

Is NoScript installed?
I'm not clear here on what is and isn't running.
I know those scripts can be enabled and still by default be turned off with NoScript running.

Jusched.exe is not running.
I was able to view You Tube videos with IE after enabling the add-on in 'Toolbars and Extensions' named "Shockwave Flash Object".
I was able to view You Tube Videos with FF after enabling 'Accept Cookies from sites' in the 'Options' settings under the 'Privacy' tab.
As far as I know these are the only changes I made to get the videos to show. They are playing fine now with both browsers.
Sorry for the confusion in this thread. I posted information that he gave me that I now believe was inaccurate. I know not to depend on him for facts again! >:(
