Hi
I am using windows xp.
Can anyone tell me how to disable these two scrolling arrow from my taskbar?
or simply remove them. I know that I should see one right arrow but not UP and Down arrow.
My taksbare properties " Group simillar task bar buttons" is checked. If I uncheck no difference does it makes.

Remove the oversized H icon on the right...what's it for ? ?
-
What is the EN icon to the right of the double arrow scroller? Is it related to the double arrow scroller?
What does this double arrow scroller actually do?
-
These two arrows allow you to select another applications that are open. when I click on them, either up or down arrow, it displays the other open applications on the task bar and allows me to click and open them.
usually it is is suppose to be an arrow to towarads the right lik this ">" but this is is annoying.
The language bar has nothing to do with it. I closed the language bar and nothing has changed.

A >> would be a list of icons on your desktop, not your taskbar. And, the image you posted shows you have IE open, so your taskbar seems to be displaying applications correctly.
Have you ever installed any third-party software that modifies standard Windows features?

patio, do you mean this?:

It's the only H I see. And, it's on a taskbar button for Internet Explorer. Are you referring to something else on his image?

No that's the one i was referring to ...it looks slightly oversized to me which is why i suggested trying to remove this.
But i'd still like to know an answer to your question...i think there's some third party eye-candy program installed...
-
So, you're referring to something to the right of the red arrow on his image, right? To the right of the up/down arrow he's asking about, I see a language toolbar; it's the letters EN. Then, further to the right, I see a green box with the number 1 in it. That box appears to extend further to the right but is cutoff in his image.
So, I don't any "H", other than on the IE icon I mentioned.
-
I was referring to the IE icon with the H in it...it looks oversized compared to the others off to the left.
-
Hi guys,
Here is another snapshot of this issue when I RIGHT-CLICK on it.
To make it clear, this is the bring up the window of applictions that are open.

It looks the same with me.
What is shown when you click on up/down arrow?
That is supposed to be there if there is not enough space on the taskbar to view them all.
This is what it normally looks like for me:

This is what it looks like when I have too many windows open:

This is what it looks like when I press the down arrow:

Yeah, well, why have not answered this question?:
What does this double arrow scroller actually do?
But, now we know the answer. Carbon Dudeoxide has it right. I just confirmed that on my computer.
So, barnamah, it's normal, you can't disable it. And, if you don't want to see it, then don't open so freakin many applications at one time.
-
guys I have been using windows XP since 2001 and have never seen this. In our office there are 7 more people and none of them has seen this.
I remember few days ago I used to see a SINGLE arrow pointing to the RIGHT ONLY and I used click and see all the opened programs. Now I don't know what have I done, but I have installed Microsoft Office with SP3 and lots of other applications.
Today i showed these arrow to all 7 guys and asked them if they knew anything about it, they weren't aware of it either.
-
I'm not sure I've seen it before, either. That's because I normally don't have ump-teen things open at the same time.
Go to any Win XP computer and open applications and keep opening more of them until they can't all be displayed in the space available on the taskbar. This will confirm that the double arrow scroll arrows are normal, as Carbon Dudeoxide has explained to you, and I stated that I confirmed on my computer.
Today i showed these arrow to all 7 guys and asked them if they knew anything about it, they weren't aware of it either.
Again, they must have a large number of applications open before this happens. Ask them to do the same test as above.

That's right....
Too get rid of the up and down arrows, just close all your open windows.
-
This is not about the image you are showing.
here is an example of my home system where it can show 10 program groups and no arrow at all.
whey in my computer at the office it show those arrows as soon as I open more than lets say 3 programs?
It is annoying because when I want to go to any of the other programs, I have to click on one arrow and then the second arrow till I find the open application.
There must be something to make the task bar behave like this.
Just look at the attached image.
Thank you for your reply.

Well, obviously, you have more space available between the Quick Launch toolbar and the system tray on your home computer than you have on your work computer. If you adjust your Quick Launch toolbar to display fewer items on the taskbar, that would help. You did not show us what all icons you normally have taking up space in the system tray area. Are those items being hidden when inactive?

But, if you open still more applications, you'll eventually get the double scroll arrows.

The point is if you look at the image I have opened 10 application group at home it works like the image you see, BUT in my work place if even open 3 or 4 the double arrow appear... can't you see the problem? can't this (with 3 or 4) work like my home system? It should and it MUST. Of course we should know what to do or what NOT to.
Thank you

You haven't answered the space/dimensions issue.

Try to right click on the taskbar and pick properties and than click Group similar taskbar buttons.
That should get rid of the 2 arrows
Let me know how you make out with this.

That's a good idea, Spoiler. However, this topic is almost 2 months old...

He was wrong anyways. What the dude had to do was unlock the task bar, then a verticle line would appear, then move that to the right and the arrows would dissapear. This just means that he had to many quick launch icons to fit in the area so it put the icons there. I use it all the time thats how I know.

I am sorry....I thought I found the answer in a MS book....

No need to be sorry, your advice wasn't wrong in any way, it just that the OP hasn't been here in 2 months.
