Hiya Fellas!
I run Windows 7 Home and I have a puzzlement. I have a number of USB external drives ...two of which are Western Digital. My red one I use to backup to, my blue one I use as a portable aplication storage. Suddenly, I cannot see the contents of these drives! My machine makes the conection sounds when I plug them in and If i go deep into my device management they are there to see, but they do not at all appear under 'My Computer' consiquently I cannot get to them or read them???
This has just recently happend for some reason???? ::)
Any ideas guys???? >:( >:(
-
Do they work in another computer?
-
Good Qusetion ST I will try out. :-[
-
I have just tried the drives at a mates computer and they work fine???? >:( >:(
-
Are you using the front uSB ports on your PC when trying them ? ?...or a multi-port hub ?
-
I have two USB's at the front of my computer Patio which I normally use. As I say, I have had the drives working from here without problem in the past??????
-
Front ports are notoriously known for being under-powered...
I'd bet if you hook them up to another port it'll show fine.
-
Sorry to have to report that using my rear USB ports has made no difference lads??????? >:( ???
-
Connect each one 1 at a time on the PC they showed on...
Open Disk Management...right clik the drive and select Properties.
Post back with a screenshot or all the info it reports.

OK Patio will do but will take a little time mate. I will do it as quick as I can. thnx ;D
-
You said you can see them in Disc Management? If so, try changing the Drive letter and see if that fixes your problem.
-
Can mark this as closed guys ...I have used the old 'Manchester Screwdriver' which has solved this problem Thnax again tho fellas!
-
I have solved this prob with my trusty 'Manchester Screwdriver' mates .......I do thank you for all the input tho. It has been put to me that not using the 'Hardware Release' tab on exit may not have helped here. I am using it now every time anyways. ;D
