Title: asus m4A88T-V usb3 install woes
Post by: i_luv_strats on May 25, 2011, 12:43:21 AM
Hey, just got a new asus M4A88t-v usb3 mother board and swapped all my parts out of my old tower into a new case. Everything powers on but windows won't boot up. I don't hear then jingle of wi dows booting to the password screen through the speakers so I assume windows isn't booting up?

What I've tried so far:
Removing ram
disconnect cd drive and boot up
remove vid card and boot up with onboard graphics
Different monitor
disconnect keyboard and mouse then boot up

Specs
asus M4A88T usb3 mother board
8gb ram
galaxy gtx 480 super oc graphics card
corsair 600watt psu
corsair  H70 cpu cooler
amd 1000t 3.3ghz x6
1tb hard drive

Do you hear any beeps from the computer? Have you connected the EPS/ATX12V 4 pin connector (black and yellow) to the motherboard and all the required power connectors to the graphics card?

I believe there is one beep then all the fans and hard drive kick in so I can't tell if there is any additional beeps. I did check the power supply plug ins for the 4 pin and video card. The fans on the vid card to power up when comp is turned on.

Hard drive from old computer won't boot in new computer.  You must reinstall Windows.

What's the best way to do that if comp won't boot? I don't even have bios screen.

1.  POST (Power On Self Test, i.e. BIOS screen) comes 1st, then booting.  They are not the same.
2.  POST requires a keyboard, CPU w/fan, 1 RAM stick, graphics (onboard or card), nothing else.
3.  Fans & HDD spinning means little, except +12V power is available.
4.  If you hear 1 beep, it's POSTing.
5.  Asus doesn't list M4A88T as a valid model number.  There's more letters/numbers at the end.

Have the monitors you've tried been receiving a signal i.e. they do not display a "No signal" message or go to standby mode? Because commando is correct in saying that it is successfully completing a POST.

What happens if you press Del or F2 when you switch it on? (Sorry I can't remember which is correct for ASUS's)

Have you tried booting without any drives connected? Should cause a system halt and display a message.

5.  Asus doesn't list M4A88T as a valid model number.  There's more letters/numbers at the end.

OP lists the full motherboard name in the subject title. Also there is no AMD Phenom 1000T X6 3.3GHz processor but there is a 1100T that matches the description. It may be a a little irritating but it's not difficult.

I get "no signal" if I start up with the monitor plugged into the mobo but not when I plug into the vid card. Dug through the manual and didn't see my rams serial number in the list of compatible ram. I take it that could be a problem as well.

1100t is the one, woops.

If you are looking for new RAM and aren't sure what you need then I would recommend Crucial Memory (http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx).
They have a tool that will identify what kind of RAM is compatible with your computer.

This indicates that it is POSTing.  Could be a RAM timing problem.
Processor is on the support list, requires BIOS #0306 or #0307:
Phenom IIX6 1100T(HDE00ZFBK6DGR),3.3GHz,125W,rev.E0,SocketAM3,6-Core

They can't test & list every available RAM module on the market. What RAM are you using? Have you mixed any brands?

Got crucial ram on the way. It matches the manual so hopefully it works. I do have mixed ram but either is not on the compatible ram list in the asus manual.

They are correct far more often than they aren't.  You might want to look into things a little bit more carefully.

Well I was hoping to check that the OP wasn't mixing incompatible RAM so as not to waste money replacing all the current RAM if unnecessary.

And what about all the smaller brands of memory? I'm sure that they are a complete waste of money as they're never listed on the compatibility spec sheet [sarcasm].

Actually, when I buy RAM I check the type, speed, voltage, timings, error checking & whether it is registered or unbuffered against compatible listed RAM. I believe that currently non of my computers are running with manufacturer specified memory.

Should I look into a higher watt psu? Or is the one I have sufficient?

I'll give CMOS clear a shot. Would I hear beeps through the normal pc speakers? My original and new case don't have a case speaker.

New ram didn't make a change, tried my 2.8ghz quad from my other comp and no go. Both processors work fine in the original mobo. Tried with no ram, one stick, and both.
