toshiba laptop, L300/L300D series windows vista home premium, when creating a recovery disc, do you disable the anti virus.
Here is a quote from the manual.
Quote
do not write to disc when the virus check software is running, wait for it to finish then disable virus check detection programs including any software that checks files automatically in the background unquote
I also have windows defender on this, not sure about that one.
Also it says , "insert the first blank media into the optical disc drive" how many do you need....
Thats about it, i can follow the rest till i get to the "recovery disc creator"

If it says to disable AV, do so. Nothing dangerous about it.

I can disable the anti virus , but not sure about disableing windows defender, or if it needs to be disabled, or even how to disable it

I had found it, after about 20 minutes, i am writing all this down for future reference

I had forgot to mention this , do i use a DVD-RW 4gb or can i use the CD-R 700mb

You'd have to ask Toshiba, or try, because for instance:
HP recommends using blank CD-Rs or DVD+Rs (if supported). The Recovery CD-DVD Creator does not write to DVD-Rs even if the DVD-RW drive supports writing to DVD-Rs.

XP...use a CD.
Vista...use a DVD.
Size matters... ;)

This application will allow you to choose from a variety of different media onto which the recovery image can be copied including DVD-R DVD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW
so i should be fine with a couple of DVD-RWs, i do have a DVD-RW DRIVE

I am new to these sort of drives, and get confused as to what sort of discs they can or cannot play.
It states that i have a CD-RW/DVD-RW....drive.
I will be getting some of these on thursday, so the best option would be to get some DVD-R discs.
