Title: Networking Windows and Mac
Post by: Accessless on June 27, 2011, 03:16:20 PM
Now my knowledge on Macs is to be blunt non existant. So bear in mind anything on the Mac end of things is probably wrong.

Right the situation is that I want to get file sharing going between a Mac OS X laptop and a several Windows 7 PC's. But I can't even get Windows to show the Mac as even connected to the router. Help

I realise that there are a lot of google results on the matter but most relate to mac to windows problems, and as I've already said I'm a Mac idiot. (That's someone who doesn't know how to use a Mac not someone who swears by them)

No way am I a MAC expert. It is hard enough to get Windows PCs to work together, let alone having an alien join the party.

Here are some Buzzwords:
Windows Work group
File Sharing
Permissions
User names
Network places
DHCP
MAC OS Ten
Samba

These are things you would look for in a search. May I suggest you use BING when looking for nontechnical information that includes windows.

And search for 'MAC on Work group'  (not quotes)
This looks link a good one:

Does the MAC connect to the internet through the same network?

The trouble is that I'm not to sure which end the problem is on, the PC's or the MAC's. Sorry for the late reply btw processor upgrade, that needed BIOS upgrade, which then caused problems was occupying me.

Does the MAC connect to the internet through the same network?

Yes, (holding back infinite list of snarky replies). [I know these things need to be asked]
